How we work

One company, from the first phone call to the annual service.

You are not handed from a salesperson to a subcontractor and then to a call centre. The engineer who surveys your property is the one who installs the system, and we are the people who answer the phone a year later when you have a question or need a service.

It is a simple way to work, and it is the reason most of our jobs come from people who were recommended to us.

Why a local company beats a national name

Big installers send whoever is free that day. With Prestige, the engineer who surveys your property is the one who installs the system, and we are the people who pick up the phone afterwards. Our founder, Andrew Flower, has over 30 years in air conditioning and refrigeration, from London to the south coast.

F-Gas registered, fully insured, and tidy: dust sheets down, packaging taken away, controls explained before we leave.

Systems that heat as well as cool

We fit wall-mounted and floor-standing split systems from Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Fujitsu. They run at as little as 19 dB indoors — quieter than a library — are A++ rated for cooling, and every one of them heats too, which makes them the cheapest way to warm a single room in spring and autumn. Wi-Fi control comes as standard on most, so you can cool the bedroom from the car on the way home.

Every installation includes

  • The indoor and outdoor units
  • Installation, pipework and electrics
  • Commissioning and a walk-through of the controls
  • Packaging taken away
  • Our 12-month workmanship warranty
  • An aftercare pack by email once you are up and running

Manufacturer warranties vary by brand and product. The applicable warranty is confirmed on your quotation. More about warranties and aftercare

The outside matters as much as the inside

The outdoor unit is the part people worry about: where it goes, how it looks, how loud it is. It needs air around it and a solid base. After that there are three usual answers, and the survey decides which suits your property.

  • On the ground

A patio, path or a bed at the side of the house. The usual answer, and the easiest to service.

  • On a wall bracket

Off the ground and out of the way, on brackets set level and bolted into sound masonry.

  • Flat roof or balcony

Common for apartments. We plan the condensate drainage and allow for vibration, so neither becomes a problem later.

Pipework is run neatly and kept short, brackets are set level, and cables are clipped. It is the part of the job most installers rush, and the part a neighbour sees first.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The questions that come up at nearly every survey. If yours is not here, call us — it is usually a two-minute answer.

What does it cost?

Every job is quoted individually, because no two rooms are the same: the size, the wall, the run of pipework and the electrics all change the work involved. We survey the job free of charge and give you a written price with no obligation.

Do I need planning permission?

For most houses, no. Outdoor units usually fall under permitted development if they are sited sensibly and are not in a conservation area or on a listed building. Flats and apartments normally need the freeholder’s consent. We will tell you at the survey.

How much does it cost to run?

A modern A++ system is far cheaper to run than most people expect: cooling a bedroom overnight costs pennies rather than pounds. In heating mode it is usually cheaper than a fan heater or an electric radiator.

Is it noisy?

Indoors, a modern unit runs at around 19 dB on its quietest setting, which is quieter than a library. Outdoors it is roughly the level of a fridge a few feet away.

How long does installation take?

A single room is usually a day. Two or three rooms on one outdoor unit typically take two to three days, depending on pipe runs and access.

Can it heat as well?

Yes. Every system we fit is a heat pump as well as a cooler, so it takes the chill off in spring and autumn without firing up the whole central heating system.

What warranty do I get?

Every Prestige installation includes our 12-month workmanship warranty. The manufacturer’s warranty is separate, is parts only as standard, and varies between brands, so the one that applies to your system is confirmed on your quotation.

How often should a system be serviced?

Once a year is the usual advice: filters cleaned and sterilised, refrigerant and pressures checked, drains cleared and the electrics inspected. Servicing is not compulsory for your warranty to remain valid, but a neglected system can develop faults a manufacturer will not accept as a claim, so it is well worth keeping up. Our Annual Service Plan starts at £120 a year.

Do you service systems you did not install?

Yes. You do not need to have bought your system from us. We service and repair existing air conditioning in homes and business premises across the area, whoever installed it. If a system is one we cannot support, we will say so rather than waste your time.

What happens after the installation?

You receive an aftercare pack by email with your user guides, warranty information, our contact details and servicing information. We are then on the end of the phone, and we send one reminder a year when an annual service may be due.
